We start by selecting the finest kiln dried timber

We use furniture grade timber, air and kiln dried to below 8% moisture. This is such a delicate balancing act, but one that is vital to give your board resilience and longevity.

To give some context, it takes around 2 years from the point of felling to the point we work on a board.

Throughout that time, its moisture is gently and carefully reduced to the desired point to prevent cracking and distortion. This isn’t everyday wood.

Each finished piece is hand finished

This includes an intensive hand sanding and polished with super fine 3000 grit paper.

The higher the grit the finer the finish and 220 to 400 grit is generally classed as a fine finish.

We go way beyond that.

And finally comes the conditioning process

This is the final step that helps to give our boards a lifetime of use and maintaining all the hand crafted beauty of the wood.

We then condition the boards with food grade mineral oil, followed by our own in-house made Board Butter; a mixture of mineral oil and organic beeswax to give deep conditioning and water resistance.

These aren’t everyday chopping boards.

The chopping board arrived in perfect condition. Thanks very much it’s brilliant!
